Clear Lake drive
Lancia Who, What, When, Where, Why
The next gathering of the NorCal Lancia Group is planned for Friday - Sunday (November 4 - 6) in Lake County.
Headquarters and starting point each day will be the Tallman Hotel in Upper Lake, CA.
Upper Lake is a quaint easily missed town who's restored historic Downtown is just one block off Highway 20. After passing under the arched Upper Lake sign spanning Main Street, the Downtown consists of several blocks of restored buildings housing antique and gift shops and the spectacularly restored Tallman Hotel and rebuilt Blue Wing Saloon and grille. Both properties Victorian/Western architecture promise good things within. A huge covered patio with greenery and fountains rests between the two businesses.
The Tallman has been loving and sensitively restored from its covered porches to 18 guest rooms and detached cottages. The Blue Wing has a beautiful antique wooden back bar serving cocktails and a kitchen offering hearty Californian/gastro pub cuisine.
Upper Lake is located adjacent to Clear Lake offering all sorts of water sports including fishing, boating, waterskiing and kayaking plus beautiful over the water vistas. Lake County also boasts 34 wineries growing Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Reislings, Petite Syrah, Syrah, Tempranillio, Malbec, Zinfandel and Cabernet and several breweries with attached pubs.
The plan is to make a circumnavigation of the Lake over Saturday and Sunday stopping at historical and naturally beautiful sites and sampling local faire at wineries, cheese makers, breweries and even a spot famous for their buffalo jerky.
The plan for those joining us Friday is to have dinner at the Blue Wing and then start out the next morning at10:00 for a winery tour drive on paved country roads to a stop for a picnic lunch at the spectacular Brassfield Estate Winery.
There are two casinos on Highway 20 located within a few minutes of the Tallman Hotel. I will have information later on the music at their nightclubs in case a group wants to do a little dancing and/or test their luck at the tables.
Sundays agenda will comprise a drive around the western side of the Lake, mostly on lake front paved secondary roads, a visit to a brewery in Lakeport and the charming town of Kelseyville.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Tallman Hotel until September 24 so please make your reservations as soon as possible.
