ALC CENTRAL COAST TOUR REPORT - Paul Tullius May 3 – 6, 2015 A 3 ½ day Central Coast Tour followed this year’s ALC Lancia Reunion in Cambria, California. The tour was coordinated by Hank Koning and Paul and Vicki Tullius. Our friend, Dr. Peter Renou, from Melbourne, Australia joined us on the rally and tour. We left Cambria on Sunday afternoon following the reunion brunch. Many of us had never been to the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, so, our plan was to drive from Cambria to the Castle for a special tour of the outbuildings, and the kitchen. Following the tour, we drove on to Fort Hunter Liggett where we spent our first evening at the historic Hacienda Lodge. the Hacienda was the headquarters for Hurst’s ranch. It is a wonderful venue, and is on the base proper. The cantina was opened especially for us (usually closed on Sunday nights), and some of the regular Army showed up and joined us for beer and pizza. Fun times. I highly recommend the Hacienda on Ft. Hunter Liggett, it is a great driving road going between Highway one, and the fort. Monday morning we toured Mission San Antonio, just outside the main gate of the fort. This beautiful and remote mission is available for special dinners. I am already planning another visit. Let me know if you would like to be included. After leaving the mission, we drove south on scenic roads heading towards Paso Robles for lunch, and then on to Taft; located on the east side of the coastal mountain range where we spent the night. Our drive on Tuesday took us through more beautiful remote California roads eventually landing us in Santa Paula where we spent night 3 at the historic Glenn Tavern Inn. The Inn has a Hollywood history where, “visitors are offered a chance to relive the gilded days of excess and adventure in a place where spirited reviles and restless spirits seem to comingle quite amicably”. Following our brunch on Wednesday, we drove to the Mullin Museum in Oxnard, where we had a private tour by Larry Crane. Larry, is well known to us. He is a long time instructor at the Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena, (and a former owner and vintage racer of a 4th series B-20). Thanks go to Tina Byrd, she and Larry are good friends, and Tina was able to arrange this tour. The Central Coast Tour concluded following our visit to the Mullin Museum.
